Journalist and political commentator. Thompson became a leading correspondent in Europe after WWI. She was a vocal critic of Hitler after interviewing him, leading to her expulsion from Nazi Germany and to her rise in fame. The author of seven books on political science, she was the first woman to address such male bastions as the Harvard Club and the Union League of New York. Thompson’s second husband was Sinclair Lewis.
