Applications to the IIT College of Architecture graduate degree programs are accepted only for the fall semester. The application deadline for the Fall 2014 term is January 3, 2014, with rolling admissions thereafter. Admission decisions for all applications arriving by the January 3rd deadline will be issued in March. All applicants will need to submit a portfolio to receive an admission decision.
Below is a list of the materials you will need to submit for all College of Architecture graduate degree programs. The Admissions Committee will not review applications until all of the required materials have been received.

How to Apply
Individuals may apply through the IIT Office of Graduate Admission's online application system. Supporting documents may be uploaded through the Graduate Applicant Portal. For instructions on how to upload documents, please visit the university's guide here.
**Please note that the application portfolio cannot be uploaded, and instead must be submitted in a bound, paper form directly to IIT College of Architecture.**
If you wish to submit all your materials in hard copy, you may do so. Please submit the materials in a single package to avoid processing delays.

International applicants requiring a student visa to study in the U.S. will also need to submit a Financial Affidavit of Support. We encourage applicants to submit their Financial Affidavit of Support along with the admission requirements listed above.

You must upload this form along with all supporting documentation through the Applicant Portal. International applicants can have their application reviewed without financial documents on file; however, they cannot be formally admitted to the IIT College of Architecture until a valid Financial Affidavit of Support with a copy of their current passport is on file with our office.

Additional Admission Information
Master of Architecture (M.Arch.), Professional Degree
To be admitted without conditions to the Master of Architecture program, an applicant is required to possess the following:
1) an understanding of basic systems and analytical procedures, including mechanics, heat transfer, light and sound, as demonstrated through the successful completion of college level physics course equivalent to IIT's PHYS 212;
2) an understanding of basic mathematical principles and analytical procedures, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, as demonstrated through the successful completion of college-level mathematics equivalent to IIT's MATH 122;
3) a basic ability to produce freehand drawings of architectural forms and spaces, as demonstrated by the successful completion of one college-level drawing course or by portfolio submissions;
4) a basic understanding of design, as demonstrated by the successful completion of one college-level design course or by portfolio submissions;
5) a minimum of 45 semester hours (or the quarter hour equivalent) outside of architectural studies, either as general studies or electives with content outside of architecture
Candidates admitted with deficiencies in any of these prerequisites must fulfill them before matriculation. Students with a background outside of the area of architecture may be asked to complete an introductory studio prior to the start of classes. Candidates holding a pre-professional degree in architecture will be evaluated for advanced standing status on a case-by-case basis and will be notified of their specific status upon admission.
Master of Landscape Architecture (M.L.A.), Professional Degree
To be admitted without conditions to the Master of Landscape Architecture program, an applicant is required to have prior college-level coursework in freehand drawing, biology, and earth science (geology, physical geography, or hydrology, etc.). Candidates lacking these prerequisites may be admitted on the condition that they complete the required coursework before enrolling. Candidates will be notified upon admission of their program of study, which is determined by prior academic training and professional experience, as well as portfolio content.
Master of Science in Architecture (M.S.Arch.), Post-Professional Degree
In addition to the standard requirements for graduate admission, applicants for the Master of Science in Architecture program must submit a Topic Proposal outlining their potential research interests. A personal interview with the director of the degree program is highly recommended.
Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (Ph.D.)
Applicants should meet all admission requirements, plus a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale; a TOEFL score of at least 90 IBT (International students only); and at least three letters of recommendations from immediate supervising professors plus an additional list of references. Applicants should also submit a statement of purpose indicating a subject of study or research work and should provide a portfolio demonstrating the qualities of his or her accomplishments and expertise.

Admitted Graduate Student Weekend
Friday, March 28 - Saturday, March 29
All admitted IIT Architecture graduate students are invited to attend our Admitted Graduate Student Weekend on March 28 - 29. Friday's events will include faculty presentations and tours of College facilities. Saturday activities will include a tour of Chicago and lunch downtown. A detailed schedule is forthcoming.
Individual Campus Visits
We invite you to visit the College of Architecture to view our facilities, meet with admissions staff and see the student work in progress. Individual visits may be scheduled by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312.567.3260. We recommend visiting on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm when architecture design studios are in session.
