    Favorite IIT classes or projects:

    • IPROs - These hands-on projects have afforded me the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and to expand my ideas regarding future career paths.  I have learned to effortlessly network with other industry professionals and present myself as a leader.
    • Project Management-This class taught the skills necessary to accomplish unique outcomes with limited resources under critical time constraints.
    • Industrial Risk Management- Brought to my attention the need for Incident Management and Strategic Risk Management Planning

    • Organizational Communication- The lessons learned in this class will assist me with my communication skills in a rapidly growing global economy.  Globalization requires individuals to communicate in ways that transcend space and time.

" I am a local 134 Journeyman Electrician of 20 years.  My experience ranges from low voltage communication work to commercial and industrial applications.  Since beginning the INTM program in 2011, the experience has taken me far beyond my expectations.  The staff and professors have been extremely helpful in guiding and assisting me on my educational journey.  The professors have helped develop my talents and sharpen my skills to pursue future endeavors. The advice and guidance I received in this program has lead me to believe anything is possible."

    Simon Dawson
    INTM
    Anticipated Graduation date
    Spring 2014

     Specialization: Industrial Facilities

    Hometown: London, England

Current Job: Journeyman Electrician, Aldridge Electric. I built the State Street Village in Chicago...not by myself, of course, but I installed the underground electrical feeds for the building.

    Favorite IIT classes or projects:

    • Since I work full-time and go to school full-time, there is not much time for projects…work, study, work, study, work, work, study.  However, I try to take advantage of EVERY opportunity that presents itself.

" I was a student at IIT in 1995, but left school to take care of my family. The INTM program has afforded me a second chance to reach my goals and it has been a great experience for me. When I graduate, I want to let off an airhorn then find a job that is fulfilling (in that order). My life philosophy:  Make friends here, venture outside of your comfort zone and talk to people who are studying something different from you, or from another part of the world. You'd be surprised how much it can help you."
