Bachelor of Science in Communication

As a student in the Communication program you can choose from three specializations including Professional and Technical Communications, Journalism of Science, and Journalism of Technology and Business.

Journalism Specializations

Students who choose one of the two Journalism specializations benefit from the intensive subject-matter course work that differentiates IIT from other journalism programs. In the Journalism of Technology and Business specialization the study of technology is paired with business as they are inextricably intertwined today and into the foreseeable future. In the Journalism of Science specialization you will have the opportunity to study science and business, which have a relationship that is not so immediate and transparent. You can see clear evidence of this in the placement of stories in newspapers and news web sites: scientific discoveries and findings are almost always placed in general news sections, while technology stories are most often in business sections.

General Coursework

As a Communications student you can take general education and major coursework, but not have to choose a specialization for 3-4 semesters, by which time you will better understand the nature of the three options as well as your own proclivities and interests.
