Greetings from Illinois Institute of Technology. Even with the academic year winding down and Commencement on the near horizon, we look forward with great anticipation to exciting opportunities ahead. In late winter, the university launched the public phase of its six-year fundraising campaign, Fueling Innovation. The campaign captures the university's unique promise to produce innovative graduates through IIT's distinctive education program as well as to address urgent global challenges through innovative research and scholarship.
A top priority of the campaign is raising $30 million to build a state-of-the-art Innovation Center. The 100,000-square-foot building will offer students and faculty a centralized facility to promote innovation, transition novel ideas into products and processes, and serve as a hub for various entrepreneurship initiatives. It will also be the new home for our hallmark Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program, the Idea Shop, and IIT Institute of Design.
As one of the Midwest's top Ph.D.-granting universities, with several nationally ranked programs, IIT is committed to the advancement of the human condition through quality teaching and research. Through our schools of engineering, the sciences and humanities, design, architecture, law, business, and psychology, we are educating students to excel in a complex global society. Our faculty research initiatives are addressing some of the most compelling topics of our time, from hybrid vehicles to biomedicine to cancer research.
The university is committed to developing and fostering a climate of inclusiveness, with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. I have appointed a committee, representative of every part of the university, to consider ways to improve diversity and the climate of inclusiveness on the campus. That committee is reviewing our diversity statement. It is also working to develop implementation plans for the goals for diversity set forth in our strategic plan. More information will be coming from the committee as it progresses in its work.
I encourage you to explore this website to learn more about the people—students, faculty, and staff—that make IIT distinctly unique.
