William F. Finkl

Armour Institute, ChE 1918

Industrialist, inventor and innovator. Chairman of the steel company his grandfather founded in 1879, Finkl introduced quality control into the steel industry. He invented numerous steel alloys, particularly those used in creating forging dies, and patented manufacturing processes for steel fabrication. He was an IIT trustee starting in 1948, and in 1980, IIT’s interactive television network was named for him.
