Anne Dudek Writes on Urbanization in China for Chicago Architect Magazine

IIT College of Architecture graduate student and Martin Roche Traveling Scholarship winner Anne Dudek has written an article on urbanization in China for the March/April 2013 issue of Chicago Architect.  In her article, “Two Chinese Architectures,” Dudek examines the precarious living arrangements of Chinese migrants caught between the burgeoning demand for mobile labor in the midst of China’s rapid development and the restrictions of a government housing policy that officially ties residents’ housing permits to their cities of origin.

As the recipient of the AIA Chicago Foundation’s Martin Roche Travel Scholarship, Anne Dudek received $5,000 to study rapid urbanization in China and living conditions of migrant workers within cities. Dudek is currently a project manager at Nudell Architects, as well as a second year design studio teaching assistant at IIT.
