Camras Pillars Program
Our scholars are expected to make meaningful contributions to the campus and the IIT community in three focus areas we call the Camras Pillars: service, leadership, and professional development and research. We support our scholars in their commitment to fulfilling the Camras Pillars by providing and promoting programming specific to each year a Camras Scholar spends at IIT. “Themed” years promote a sense of camaraderie among newer scholars, and ensure that our program challenges each student to achieve excellence in each pillar by the time he or she graduates.
Year 1: Service (Camras Service Retreat, The Big Event, Service Week, Freshman Luncheon)
Year 2: Leadership (Sophomore Leadership Retreat, Leadership Academy Seminars, Camras Sophomore Social)
Years 3–5: Professional Development and Research (Research Lab Tours, Public Speaking Workshop, Career Management Seminars, Senior Mixer)
Even though the Camras Scholars Program designates a year to focus on each pillar, our scholars do not necessarily uphold the pillars in any specific order. It is not uncommon to meet a first-year scholar who is involved in undergraduate research, or a fourth-year scholar who shows a commitment to service. This self-motivated, ongoing commitment to every pillar is, in fact, what defines and distinguishes a Camras Scholar.
