Operating System Virtualization, IT-O 454
About this Course:
This course will cover technologies allowing multiple instances of operating systems to be run on a single physical system. Concepts addressed will include hypervisors, virtual machines, paravirtualization and virtual appliances. Both server and desktop virtualization will be examined in detail, with brief coverage of storage virtualization and application virtualization. Business benefits, business cases and security implications of virtualization will be discussed. Extensive hands-on assignments and a group project will allow students to gain first-hand experience of this technology.
Prerequisites:
IT 301 A+ Certification Training or IT 302 Introduction to UNIX and Scripting, basic Operating System and networking fundamentals or equivalent experience required for enrollment
Expected Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of operating system virtualization
- Apply operating system virtualization as it applies in the management of servers and desktop workstation in a business environment
- Install, configure, use and manage a variety of operating system virtualization environments
- Assess enterprise needs for virtualization and select and apply the best solution
