Master Certificate in Digital Voice and Data Communication Technologies
About this Course:
The Master Certificate in Digital Voice and Data Communication is awarded to those participants who have completed the Network+ Certification Training, Telecommunications Technology and Voice Over Internet Protocol courses of the Information Technology Certificate Programs offered through the School of Applied Technology of Illinois Institute of Technology. Those interested in pursuing this award must complete at least three certificate courses. Most often these courses can be successfully completed in one year or less.
Participants who wish to pursue this Master Certificate would be best served by working with a program manager of the Information Technology Certificate Programs for guidance. Some programs may be taken simultaneously and some may require prerequisites. Allowing the program manager to assist in planning the sequence of classes would ensure a successful and enjoyable experience as participants reach their goals.
This program is designed for students seeking knowledge that will prepare them for careers in digital voice and data communications. The three required certificate courses must include (not necessarily in the following order):
IT-O 440 Network+ Certification Training - a 16 week course preparing the participant for the Network + Certification exams covering current and evolving data network technologies, protocols, network components, and the networks that use them, focusing on the Internet and related LANs.
IT-O 545 Telecommunications Technology - a 16 week course that is an introduction to voice and data communications infrastructure design and implementation. Current infrastructure including components of voice networks (such as carrier switches, PBXs, SS7, T1 trunks, and switched versus dedicated circuits), the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), communications industry structure, telephone-data system interfaces and interaction, and convergence of voice and data communications systems will be examined, along with possible alternative approaches.
IT-O 546 Voice Over Internet Protocol - a 16 week course detailing a suite of application protocols known as Voice over IP (VoIP). It describes important protocols within that suite including RTP, SDP, MGCP, and SIP and the architecture of various VoIP installations including on-net to on-net, on-net to PSTN and Inter-domain scenarios.
An elective may be chosen from the following courses:
