Lockom Now Systems Engineer for "The Plant" Vertical Farm
Frank Lockom, a graduate student in computer science at IIT, is systems engineer for The Plant, Chicago's vertical farm and food business incubator. Lockom is included in a Medill Reports student video about the plant here.
As an undergraduate, Lockom and Claire Simmonds (CS 4th year) worked with Senior Lecturer Matt Bauer on an aquaponics control system for The Plant, which occupies the former Peer Foods factory building in Chicago's Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood.
Aquaponics combines aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soil-less plant farming).
IIT's involvement in the farm started as an Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program course with Adjunct Professor Blake Davis of the Industrial Technology and Management Program.
