Expertise
- Carly A. Kocurek is a cultural historian specializing in the study of new media technologies and video gaming. Her current work examines the early history of commercial video game arcades in the United States, the development of gamer identity through public representations of video games, and the ways in which video gaming has served as a point of articulation for public discourse surrounding masculinity, technology, capitalism, and violence. Broadly, her work considers the uses and implications of media forms as technologies of daily life. Kocurek currently teaches an introductory course in Digital Humanities, and will also teach courses in game studies, digital media, and related topics.
