Applying to IIT Professional Master's Programs
If you are a new applicant, or a current non-degree seeking student who would like to apply for degree admission, please follow the steps outlined below.
Please be advised that only nine credit hours of approved coursework as a non-degree seeking student may be transferred to your degree program. Therefore, we recommend that you begin this process several months before you reach this limit so as not to delay your matriculation.
Degree application: Complete an online application indicating the degree program to which you are applying (choose one of the following):
|Materials and Chemical Synthesis||MCH||MCS|
|Non-Degree Admission||NDG||Choose from above|
|Analytical Methods Development||CER||AMD|
|Characterization of Inorganic and Organic Materials||CER||CIO|
|Synthesis and Characterization of Inorganic Materials||CER||SIM|
|Synthesis and Characterization of Organic Materials||CER||SOM|
Transcripts: If you haven't already done so, please arrange with your undergraduate college(s) and all post-graduate programs you've attended to send official transcript(s) to the Office of Graduate Admission.
GRE: All applicants to the Master of Biology programs will be required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Applicants to all other programs may be required to take the GRE if your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0. Please consult with your program coordinator. If you are an international student or earned your bachelor's degree from a non-U.S. institution, you are required to take the general GRE. The minimum GRE score for admission into the professional science master's program is 1000 (combined quantitative and verbal) and 3.0 (analytical). GRE scores older than five years are not accepted.
Professional Statement: As requested on the application form, you must submit a professional statement to the Office of Graduate Admission. The professional statement is a one-page essay on why you want to earn this degree. You should explain your background, your qualifications, and your future personal or professional goals.
Recommendation Letters: You must also submit two letters of recommendation. Please follow up to make sure they have been sent to, and received by, the Office of Graduate Admission. You may check the status of your application by using your ID number at: the Graduate Admission Applicant Portal. Recommenders may write a personalized letter or use the form provided with the application.
TOEFL-if applicable: If you obtained your bachelor's degree from a non-English speaking program, then you should be prepared to take the TOEFL exam. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based).
Application Fee: The application fee is $50. If you have already paid the $50 application fee for the non-degree application, then your application fee for the degree program will be waived.
