    Master of Data Science | Frequently Asked Questions

    IIT College of Science Professional Master's Program: Data Science - Making Sense of Data
    1. Aside from the prerequisites listed on the academics page, what other admissions criteria are required?
      Applicants are required to hold a bachelor's degree in mathematics, science, engineering, business, or an equivalent field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum GRE scores of 304 (quantitative + verbal) 2.5 analytical writing. For tests taken before 2011 the minimum scores required are 1100 (quantitative + verbal), 2.5 analytical writing. A professional statement of objectives and a resume must be submitted in addition to two letters of recommendation. Note that International applicants must meet English Language requirements and submit financial support documents. A TOEFL score of 550/213/80 (paper/computer/internet test score) is required if an applicant is from a non-English speaking country.
    2. What are the requirements to earn the Master of Data Science degree?
      To earn the Master of Data Science degree, you must complete a minimum of 33 credit hours from the list of approved courses, including a 6 credit summer practicum, while maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 ("B" average).
    3. What is unique about IIT's Master of Data Science Program?
      The Master of Data Science at IIT is an interdisciplinary program that provides a firm grounding in mathematics and computational science along with the communication skills necessary to become a professional data scientist. Our aim is to produce graduates who have (i) a rigorous, theoretical understanding of the field, (ii) skill and experience in applying this understanding using state-of-the-art tools, and (iii) the communication skills to work effectively with clients and coworkers. In this program you will conduct rigorous coursework, work on real-world team projects (the practicum), and benefit from IIT's trademark small classes and personal attention.
    4. Are there any scholarships available?
      Scholarships may be available to highly qualified candidates.
    5. When can I start?
      If the prerequisites have been met you may begin your graduate studies in either the fall or spring semesters. Applications are now open for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014.
    6. How long will it take?
      Full-time students can finish the degree in 12 months. Part-time students have the option of completing the program in either 16 or 24 months.
    7. What will my diploma state as the degree earned?
      Your diploma will state that you have earned a Master of Data Science.
