Synthesis and Characterization of Organic Materials Certificate
The Synthesis and Characterization of Organic Materials certificate program outlines techniques and devices used for sampling in diverse media. Discussions of sample treatment prior to analysis is also covered. This includes isolation, concentration and fractionation of analytes, and classes of analytes. Tactics in organic synthesis such as tandem reactions, template and chelation effects, biomimetic tactics and the use of chiral terpenes, carbohydrates and amino acids in enantioselective syntheses are a main focus. As an introduction to pharmaceutical chemistry, students will learn fundamental concepts such as the modern principles of drug design: drug absorption, distribution and metabolism, theories of drug-receptor interactions, approaches to structure-activity relationships, chemical, and physicochemical and structural considerations.
