Hosman Spoke at Pacific Telecommunications Council Conference
Assistant Professor Laura Hosman gave two presentations at the 33rd Annual Pacific Telecommunications Council Conference in Honolulu, HI, in mid-January. In her first talk, "Solar-Powered Data Centers for Developing Regions: Small Is Beautiful, Again," Hosman discussed how a reconceptualization of the big-box data center is in order, and that solar energy can sufficiently power smart centers that take advantage of cloud-computing technology. Her second talk, "One Laptop per Child in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands," covered the field research Hosman carried out in these countries in the summer of 2010.
