    Mission / Strategic Plan

    Mission Statement

The mission of the Armour College of Engineering is to:

    • Provide state-of-the art education and research programs; educate a new breed of engineers with a strong fundamental knowledge of engineering principles, the capability to apply their knowledge to broad interdisciplinary areas, and an understanding and appreciation of the economic, environmental, and social forces that impact intellectual choices; and enhance Armour's reputation as an internationally recognized engineering school (Transforming Lives).
    • Strengthen Armour's leadership role by focusing on the core research competencies and enhancing partnerships with industry, government laboratories and academic and research institutions (Inventing the Future).

Armour College of Engineering (ACE) at IIT plans to launch several initiatives that will expand the interdisciplinary perspective of the engineering curriculum, provide a greater understanding of the overall impact of technology on society, and set a new high standard for excellence in engineering education and research at IIT. While ACE is continuing its commitment to provide students with fundamental knowledge within the core disciplines of engineering, the engineering curriculum will be broadened by introducing interdisciplinary, real world examples with a continuing focus on inter-professional and entrepreneurial team projects. We also want to attract more women and minority students and faculty by creating a more welcoming and diverse community. Our plan also demands significant research and educational partnerships with other universities, industry and government and research laboratories. We have identified several education and collaborative research areas of high priority for the college and are focusing our effort to attract significant funding and to secure needed resources to assume a national leadership role in these areas.
