Electrical and Computer Engineering Energy Initiatives
The Perfect Power System at IIT will be the first energy distribution system of its kind in the United States. IIT has partnered with the Galvin Electricity Initiative and the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to confront and model a solution to the nation’s energy crisis. This partnership, in collaboration with S&C Electric, Endurant Energy, and ComEd, has developed a Perfect Power System design, which is being built at IIT's Main Campus. For more information, visit the Perfect Power at IIT website.
View the new energy@iit magazine, which highlights the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and its energy related efforts at IIT. Learn about managing power outages, harvesting human energy, the future of broadband communications, and using alternative energy sources to create a more sustainable world. The magazine also features the conversion of IIT Main Campus into the flagship Perfect Power System in the United States.

Bob Galvin, former CEO of Motorola and creator of the Galvin Electricity Initiative, along with ECE chair Mohammad Shahidehpour and representatives from ComEd, Endurant Energy, and S&C Electric, introduced the Perfect Power Project at IIT, a ground-breaking approach to electricity distribution and management. Perfect Power--the first such system to be built in the United States--will be a university-owned, campus-wide smart microgrid electricity distribution system that will virtually eliminate power outages by providing more reliable, efficient and secure electricity to IIT's classrooms and research facilities.
