Residence and Greek Life offers many different types of employment opportunities for Shimer, Vandercook and IIT students. A brief explanation of position responsibilities and position description are provided for each role below.
Community Desk Assistant (CDA) is a student who manages the front desk of a residence hall. Responsibilities include promoting a welcoming and safe atmosphere for residents, logging in and out guests and amenities and problem solving resident needs.
Community Desk Coordinator (CDM) provides support to the CDA team and CDM by planning appreciation efforts, makes suggestions and improvements to front desk processes and monitors and tracks supplies for each front desk.
Community Desk Manager (CDM) develops the front desk experience for students and guests. Responsibilities include scheduling front desk shifts, serving in an on call rotation, and creating performance reviews for CDA staff.
Conference Housing Assistant (CHA) is a student who helps run Residence and Greek Life’s summer conference program. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, quick and convenient check-in and check-out experiences and assisting in solving problems for conference guests.
Senior Conference Housing Assistant (SCHA) supports the Conference Housing Assistant staff by leading the CHA staff and managing the summer conference office.
Resident Advisor (RA) is a trained peer leader who builds community by planning intentional programming, acting as a para-counselor to peers, and serving as a first resource for students with academic or institutional questions and enforces university policies and procedures.
Students interested in applying for Conference Housing Assistant, Senior Conference Housing Assistant, and Resident Advisor will need to apply through Student Life Leader Selection, found on HawkLink. In collaboration with the office of Campus Life, selection for the Orientation Leader, Peer Mentor, Conference Housing Assistant, Senior Conference Housing Assistant, and Resident Advisor is combined into one hiring process. This allows interested students to apply for all positions through one hiring process.
*Community Desk Assistant, Desk Coordinator and Community Desk Manager applicantions will be available in early March 2014.
