Note from the Chair
On behalf of the faculty and staff, welcome to the Department of Psychology at Illinois Institute of Technology!
Psychology is a fundamentally important science that focuses on understanding and explaining human behavior. Faculty and students in the Department of Psychology at IIT pursue research on topics related to various aspects of individual behavior including: attitudes toward people with disabilities, communication in social networks, depression, developmental issues, eating disorders and body image, infant mental health, health behaviors, leadership, organizational training, personnel selection, quantitative research methods, school-to-work transitions, social support, stigma, and test development.
We invite you to look through our web pages to learn more about our programs, faculty, staff, current students, and alumni. I would, however, like to point out a few highlights:
- In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, our faculty members maintain vibrant and active research labs, are the recipients of federally funded research awards, serve on editorial boards of prestigious scientific journals, are invited to deliver presentations across the nation and around the world, and
- Our current students work with our faculty in ongoing research, present their work at regional and national conferences, and apply their knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems.
- The graduates from the Department of Psychology are a distinguished group. Our alumni include individuals who have excelled in academic and scientific professions, achieved notoriety as leaders in the local, regional, national, and international communities, and remained closely connected to IIT.
We firmly believe that the study of human behavior has tremendous scientific and practical significance and are deeply committed to creating an environment that fosters innovations in psychological education, research, and service.
