Assistant Professor of Political Science at Illinois Institute of Technology.
Shapiro earned an M.A. in Korean Studies from Yonsei University, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Public Policy from the University of Southern California. He focuses on information transfer problems in the context of environmental and science policies. His research looks particularly at the connections between publicly funded R&D and environmentally-related outcomes, how the public responds to the relevant science, and how the government incentivizes change in the public and private sectors.
"Controversial topics on YouTube: How do climate change-related videos shape the friendship and commenter networks?" Climate change-related videos on YouTube are not isolated from each other but are linked across a number of levels. In this paper, we will explore how YouTube users connect across this controversial topic to see whether cohesiveness of users is connected to climate change skepticism.
