IIT’s Beta Chapter of Gamma Nu Eta hosted the Gamma Nu Eta national convention at IIT’s Main Campus on Friday, April 5 – Sunday, April 7. The event was hosted by School of Applied Technology Dean and Professional member of the Beta Chapter Bob Carlson, National Board President and Professional member of the Beta Chapter Ray Trygstad, and National Board member and Founding President of the Beta Chapter Madeleine England. They were joined by President of the Beta Chapter and ITM student Bill Wesselman, Vice President of the Beta Chapter and ITM student Maya Embar, and distinguished members from several other chapters.
Gamma Nu Eta is a National Information Technology Honor Society, and was founded to recognize and promote excellence in the study and the leadership of information technology, to offer knowledge and services to members’ schools and the surrounding communities, and to play an active role in the application and evolution of Information Technology within society. The organization is intended to not only bestow honor upon its members, but also to foster scholarship, leadership, and community involvement among those members.
Gregory N. Hughes, professor of information technology and web science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), was inducted as a professional member to Gamma Nu Eta. Hughes is an educator and an executive. At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute community he served as a member of the Board of Trustees and as the first vice provost for information technology, and he was the founder of the information technology and web science degree programs at RPI. He also spent 26 years at AT&T and its successor Lucent Technologies as vice president for international services and program management, president of the Transmission Systems Business, president of the Network Cable Systems Business and vice president of the Microelectronics Interconnection Business. He received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from President Bush in 1992.
