Illinois Tech women’s soccer hosted a spring 7 v 7 tournament on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Stuart Field. There were eight teams total with one of the teams consisting of all IIT soccer alumnae for the inaugural tournament. Both the current team and alumnae team for Illinois Tech made it to each respective semi-final matches with the alumnae teaming bowing in overtime to Roosevelt and the current Hawks getting by Purdue Calumet 7-2. Roosevelt eventually outlasted the Hawks in the final 2-1 in what was a rematch of a 5-2 Hawk win earlier in the day.
Former Scarlet Hawk soccer players traveled from across the country to return to campus – some for the first time since graduating. The alumnae in attendance included: Heather Bickerton, Samantha Cosenza, Jessica Carlson, Diana Otero, Lauren Capuano, Grace Durbin, Kay Durbin, Megan Meeke, Stephanie Salem, Lauren Wissman, Meagan Sarratt, Ashlie Ingold, Noel Deis, Erica Delgado, and Emily Kunkel.
Head Coach Ahmet Kose was happy with the event and is looking forward to hosting more like it in the future. “It was a pleasure to put this event on and although I didn’t coach all of these former players myself, I was really proud to meet them and watch them enjoy being back with old teammates. That’s what it’s all about.”
