    Rehabilitation Counseling Education - Ph.D.

In IIT's Ph.D. program in Rehabilitation Counseling Education, you will receive outstanding and intensive training in all aspects of rehabilitation psychology. Training is based on the Boulder Scientist/Practitioner Model, integrating clinical and research experience which focusing on rehabilitation counselor education and rehabilitation psychology. This program is designed especially for those who want academic appointments to teach others to be rehabilitation counselors.

Research training is an important aspect of your education. At IIT, you will be educated in the scientific process of psychological research. Such training begins in the first year working with faculty on their projects and continues up to conducting your own research. This will prepare you to present your work in peer-edited journals, and in posters and papers at conferences. These provide valuable experience and professional contacts. Research activities are normally conducted with your advisor, but you may also work with other faculty members. You also have the flexibility to change your primary research mentor if your interests change during the course of training.

Teaching is the way in which we pass our skills on to subsequent generations. You will develop your teaching skills through hands-on activities such as curriculum development, course instruction, and clinical supervision of Master's students. These activities are designed to help you develop as a teacher and also to prepare you for a career in academia.
