    Professional and Technical Communication

    Who plan to major in: Professional and Technical Communication

    Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs with any questions regarding the course equivalencies below.

    GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

    1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
    2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENGLI 1130, 1150, 1151, 1152, 1153, 1154, 1156, 1158, 1159, 1160, 1165, 2220, 2221, 2222, 2223, 2224, 2226, 2227, 2228; HIST 1110, 1120, 1130, 1140, 2235, 2245, 2260; HUM 1102, 1105, 1110; PHILO 1100, 1110, 1112, 1114, 1116, 1130, 1145, 1150, 1170, 1175, 2200; REL 1150.
    3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANTHR 1100, 1105, 1120, 1130; ECONO 2201, 2202, 2210, 2220; GEOG 1100, 1105, 1120, 1130, 1140, 2204, 2205, 2220, 2221, 2223, 2235; POLS 1100, 1101, 1160, 2203, 2220, 2221; PSYCH 1100, 1140, 1150, 2205, 2210, 2220, 2230, 2233, 2235, 2237, 2240, 2255, 2260, 2270; SOC SCI 1100; or SOCIO 1100, 1120, 2210, 2215, 2220, 2230, 2251, 2252, 2253..
    4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 1100, 2211, 2212, 2213, 2214; ENGLI 1125, 1135, 1157; HIST 2205, 2215, 2220, 2225, 2230, 2240, 2265, 2270; HUM 1101; MUSIC 1100, 1104, 1105, 1115; PHILO 1125, 1160, 2250; REL 1100, 1110, 1120, 1155, 2160; or THEAT 1100, 1104.
    5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: ANAT 1500, 1551, 1152; BIOLO 1100, 1110, 1120, 1140, 1151, 1152, 2150; BOT 1310, 1320, 2350, 2360; CHEM 1105, 1211, 1212, 1551, 1552; EARTH SCIENCE 1122, 1124; or PHYSI 1201, 1202.
    6. Mathematics - Choose MATH 2231 (IIT's Math 151).
    7. Computer Science - Choose CIS 1400.
    8. Ethics Elective - Choose one course from the following: PHILO 1110, 1112, 1114, 1116.
    9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: ENGL 1156; JOUR 1100, PHILO 2200, PSYCH 2240.
    10. PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following:CHIN 1101, 1102; ENGLI 1135; FREN 1101, 1102; GERM 1101, 1102; ITAL 1101; JPN 1101, 1102; KOR 1101, 1102; MKT 2210; MATH 1635; POLS 2220; PSYCH 1100, 2210; RUSS 1101, 1102; or SPAN 1101, 1102.
    11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except MATH 1218, 1220, 1322, 2134; and all music performance courses.
    12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at the College of DuPage. Please contact IIT's Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs for additional information.
