    Professional and Technical Communication or Internet Communication

    Who plan to major in: Professional and Technical Communication or Internet Communication

    Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs with any questions regarding the course equivalencies below.

    GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

    1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
    2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 211, 212, 215, 220, 221, 222, 225, 226, 227, 230, 235, 240, 245, 255; HIS 111, 112, 121, 122, 125; HUM 101, 102; or PHL 100, 120.
    3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 100, 101, 110, 120; ECN 100, 110, 121, 122; GEO 225, 230, 235; IDS 110; PSC 100, 220, 240, 260, 280; PSY 100, 205, 220, 226, 235, 240, 245, 250; SSC 110; or SOC 100, 120, 130, 210, 215, 230, 240.
    4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105; ENG 250; HIS 205, 215, 225, 235, 245; HUM 201; MUS 100, 101, 102, 200; PHL 110; or THE 100, 110, 130.
    5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 100, 105, 110; BIO 100, 110, 120, 122, 126, 240, 244, 250, 254, 270, 272; CHM 100, 102, 121, 122; ESC 100, 130; or PHY 103, 111, 112, 221.
    6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 131 (IIT's Math 151).
    7. Computer Science - PTC majors should choose either CS 130 or 150 (IIT's CS 105). ICOM majors should take both CS 150 (IIT's CS 115) and CS 250 (IIT's CS 116).
    8. Ethics Elective - Choose PHL 105.
    9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: CHM 106; GEO 225; PSY 245.
    10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: COM 135; ECM 220; ENG 250; FRE 101, 102; GER 101, 102; MKT 200, 230; MTH 107; PSY 100, 245; SPN 101, 102; or THE 130.
    11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses in the above sections or any course that has an "IAI" designation, except ART 130, 260; BUS 207; EDU 202; MFT 102, 152, 170, 173, 214, 224, 231; MTH 101, 106, 112, 202, 210, 211; MUS 121, 123, 124, 151, 160, 162, 164 - 169, 171, 221, 222, 223, 224, 251, 252, 280-287; THE 201, 202, 210; and all Nursing courses.
    12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Waubonsee. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
