Interests:
The research in van Drongelen's laboratory focuses on the mechanisms underlying epileptiform activity. The problem is approached both theoretically and experimentally. Epilepsy is one of the major neurological diseases worldwide. The hope for treating and curing epilepsy is to understand the underlying causes of epilepsy in the vast spectrum of patients. As epilepsy is evidently the final outcome for a wide range of pathologies, understanding it will involve tracing cause and effect across multiple levels of biological organization using a variety of approaches.
