OSRP, ORCPD, and GCA…What Does This Mean?
Research Support Services, a division under the Graduate College has two offices to assist you:
Office of Sponsored Research and Programs (OSRP) – 312.567.3035; osrp@iit.edu
OSRP provides administrative support to faculty, staff, and students in connection with externally supported scholarly research and educational projects for undergraduates, graduate students, and advanced training programs, undertaken by members of the faculty.
Office of Research Compliance and Proposal Development (ORCPD) - 312.567.7141; orcpd@iit.edu
ORCPD has two principal missions: ORCPD handles all research compliance issues for projects involving human subjects, animal subjects, or biosafety activities. It also helps faculty develop proposals by providing editorial and writing assistance and providing access to research funding opportunities. The office coordinates the activities of the Institutional Review Board (for human subjects research), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (for animal subjects research) and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (for research involving recombinant DNA, pathogens and other select agents).
Grant and Contract Accounting (GCP) – 312.567.3987
GCA, a department under the Office of the Controller, handles the creation of new accounts, expenditures, invoicing, and financial reporting, as they pertain to your award.
Research.gov is NSF’s New Home for Project Reporting
Prepare and submit your interim, final, and annual project reports on Research.gov. The NSF has transferred its existing project reporting functionality from FastLane to Research.gov. This means that PIs and Co-PIs will use Research.gov for all reporting requirements.
NSF Reports; Project Outcome Report – Now Required
NSF now requires that both research outcomes and citations of published documents resulting from research funded, in whole or in part by NSF, be made available to the public in a timely manner and electronic format. A Project Outcomes Report is to be written by PIs specifically to provide insight to the public into the outcomes of NSF-funded research.
All reports should be submitted via Research.gov.
Responsible Conduct of Research, Goodbye Blackboard, Hello CITI
PIs need to ensure that ALL undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers, as well as personnel in those categories who will be supported by their NSF award in the future, have received training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research.
How is this done? Previously, the training was provided via BlackBoard. However, the on-line training on the responsible conduct of research will now be provided through CITI at www.citiprogram.org.

Yes, We Check the Box - IIT is Listed as a Historic Place
Occasionally a sponsor will ask if the Institution where the funded work will take place is on the National Registry of Historic Places. If your work will be performed on the Main Campus, the answer to this question is "Yes".
IIT is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The registry states "roughly bounded by 31st St., State St., 35th St. and the Dan Ryan Expressway".
If the research that you are proposing may make a physical change to the campus, prior approval is needed before the proposal can be submitted. If not, OSRP recommends that you include a statement in your proposal, "The proposed research activities will not make any physical changes to IIT's campus and buildings." Please contact OSRP for more information.
NIH Provides Clarification Regarding Time Limit for Resubmissions
NIH policy allows a thirty-seven (37) month window for resubmissions (A1 applications) following the submission of a new, renewed, or revised (A0 application).
