Here’s the step-by-step instructions on how to transfer your question pools from Blackboard to Canvas:
STEP 1: Export the Question Bank from Blackboard
- Go to your Blackboard course that has pools.
- Go to Tests, Surveys, and Pools under Course Tools.
- Click on "Pools".
- Find the question pool that you want to export and click on the drop-down next to it.
- Click on "Export QTI 2.1 Package".
Now the package will be downloaded to your computer.
STEP 2: Import the Package in Canvas
- Open your Canvas course.
- Go to "Settings".
- Go to "Navigation" at the top.
- Drag "Item Banks" from the lower box and drop it into the upper box. That makes it visible to you in your Navigation Menu.
- Scroll down and click "Save".
- Go back to your course home page and click on "Item Banks" on the left-side menu.
- Click on "+Bank" button on the upper right corner.
- Type a name for your Item Bank and check "Share with [Your Course Name]".
- Click "Create Bank".
- Find the bank you created on the list and open it.
- Click on the three dots on the upper right corner next to "Return" button.
- Click Import Content.
- Select the package that you exported from Blackboard.
- Click "Import".
STEP 3: Create the Quiz in Canvas
- Go back to your Canvas home page.
- Click on "Quizzes" on the left-side menu to create one.
- Proceed with the details of your Quiz and click "Build" at the end.
- Click on the "Item Banks" button at the top. Now your Question Banks can be added to your New Quizzes.
- Click on the Item Bank that you just created and start adding questions by clicking on the blue plus icon next to each question.
- When you're done adding the questions, click on the small X on the top left side of that tab to close
- Click on the "Preview" button at the top to view the questions.
- You can publish this Quiz in your course and try it out in Student Preview to make sure everything is working fine.
This process can be done as many times as you wish to export all your question pools from Blackboard into Canvas.
