Research Interests
Gorjana Popovic received the Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Illinois Institute of Technology (2011); M.S. in Mathematics Education from Illinois Institute of Technology (2007); B.S. in Mathematics with focus on Probability and Statistics from University of Belgrade, Serbia (1992).
Popovic began her teaching career in Belgrade where she taught mathematics to students in grades 5-12. Since her arrival in the USA, she has taught a range of mathematics courses at both high school and college levels, as well as mathematics education courses for inservice and preservice teachers at the university level, and supervised student teachers.
Popovic's research interest focuses on using informal sites for the teaching and learning of mathematics. In particular, she is interested in enhancing teachers' and students' understanding of fundamental mathematical ideas, as well as their problem solving capabilities, by connecting school mathematics to the real world.
