Electric cars have been around for more than a century but only recently have we started thinking about them as our future. All this is due to the progress in battery chemistries and manufacturing. In this seminar, Elena V. Timofeeva will explore what it takes to make a battery for a fully-electric car, what kind of batteries will make electric cars competitive with gasoline, and what else is possible from a chemistry perspective.
Timofeeva is Chief Operating Officer and Director of R&D at Influit Energy LLC, and Research Professor of Chemistry at Illinois Institute of Technology. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry from Moscow State University, Russia. With over 15 years of research experience in academia, national laboratory and industry, her current research interests are at the cross-section of electrochemical energy storage, materials science, and nanotechnology.
