Description

Fermilab Technical Division is building the next generation of accelerators as well as supporting those currently operating. Strauss will give a short overview of accelerator operations and then reveal the "secrets" for building accelerator magnets. He will discuss the R&D of superconducting materials, design challenges that come when building the strongest magnets ever used for a particle accelerator, and tricks of the trade for ensuring that magnets built to current specifications will withstand future challenges during 30 to 40 years of operation.
