Your mission…

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, requires you to build an App (Mobile or Web-based) using Application Program Interfaces (APIs) to submit import/export information to the Department of Homeland Security, while simultaneously incorporating the information into an additional 3rd party program, such as Amazon or Salesforce.com or IBM's Bluemix Platform.

Why This Hackathon & Prototype Competition Is Unique and Unprecedented

The Application Program Interfaces (APIs) challenge will allow entrepreneurs to develop software solutions in order to simplify the importing/exporting compliance process with U.S. government data requirements. These API solutions will allow entrepreneurs, such as those using Etsy/E-bay/Indiegogo/Amazon, to get their products across the border. Likewise, the APIs will allow buyers to receive their purchases in a streamlined manner.

For the 1st time ever, the Department of Homeland Security, Commerce Department, State Department, the US Chamber of Commerce, Dickinson-Wright and Northof41.org have come together with the Tech Community in Chicago in order to develop API's which will allow entrepreneurs to develop software solutions to simplify the importing/exporting process.

Canada and the U.S. have pursued significant initiatives that promote exports and cross-border investments, as well as negotiated trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), and, most recently in the news, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) to open new markets. These efforts have resulted in more companies than ever engaged in cross-border trade. However, these increased volumes of trade require enhanced electronic platforms to serve all cross-border companies, from large multi-nationals to small-and medium-sized entities.
