The Chemical and Biological Engineering Department will host a seminar featuring a Distinguished Engineering Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island , Arijit Bose. The seminar's topic will be Emulsions, Electrodes, and Polymer Composites Using Carbon Black, Silica, and Graphene-Based Materials.

Abstract

We have explored using carbon black, silica, and graphene-based materials (GBM) to form emulsions for oil spill remediation, anodes for lithium-ion batteries, and electrically conducting polymer-GBM composites. In this talk, I will describe some novel concepts we exploit during processing, report on new techniques we used to evaluate our materials, and show performance characteristics that look very promising (and sometimes counterintuitive) for further development and applications.
