Description

The Department of Chemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology is hosting a hands-on workshop for high school science teachers. The workshop is designed to complement new requirements in the AP curriculum. Continuing education units will be awarded by IIT’s Department of Mathematics and Science Education.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Get a primer on modern spectroscopic techniques, including photoelectron spectroscopy.
  • Explore realistic scenarios:Have a hands-on experience with instruments in lab.
    • What is wrong with the fracking water?
    • It might be tasty, but is it toxic?
    • Is the pick-me-up from caffeine, or something else?
  • Learn strategies for implementing modern chemistry in high school curricula.
