Description

Beam physics strives to understand the highly nonlinear dynamics of charged particle beams as fundamental states of matter, as well as the science underlying many technologies and applications in a variety of scientific and applied fields based on particle beams. Several applications, some of which will be showcased in this talk, call for high intensity and/or cold beams. However, most traditional computational methods in beam physics are not well suited for high fidelity, efficient and accurate modeling, simulation and optimization of these frontiers. The colloquium will address motivations for novel numerical methods, and present some solutions aimed at the future of computational beam dynamics.
