The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is excited to host Dr. Tao Shen, Associate Dean, School of Information Engineering and Automation, Kunminng University of Science and Technology, as a speaker in our ECE Research Seminar Series.

Abstract

Terahertz spectroscopy is a rapidly evolving field with interesting applications in medical imaging, security, scientific imaging (chemistry, biochemistry, astronomy), communications, and manufacturing. The terahertz (THz) spectrum also has "fingerprint" characteristics, which lead to significant materials characterization/analysis applications and have become the complementary technique for optical imaging, Raman, and infrared spectroscopy. Dr. Shen will talk about Machine Learning and its importance in Terahertz spectroscopy.

Biography

Dr. Tao Shen received his B.S. degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2006 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, USA, in 2008 and 2013, respectively. He is a committee member and deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Materials Research Society Youth Work Committee and the director of the Key Laboratory of Electronic Material and Measurement. He has published over 40 academic papers, authored 2 books, and received 5 patents and 14 software copyrights. His primary research interests are terahertz technology, materials measurement, and the application of artificial intelligence.

A light lunch will be served. If you have questions regarding this seminar, please get in touch with Dr. Thomas Wong at twong@iit.edu
