Fall 2024 FDSN Seminar Series: Krista Varady
The Department of Food Science and Nutrition presents its fall 2024 seminar series featuring Krista Varady, professor of nutrition at the University of Illinois Chicago, who will present “Health Benefits of Intermittent Fasting.” This seminar will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 12:45–1:45 p.m. over Zoom.
Abstract
This lecture will present our lab’s latest research on the clinical efficacy of intermittent fasting in adults with obesity and diabetes. The safety of the diets and practical considerations will also be discussed.
Bio
Krista Varady is a professor of nutrition at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her research focuses on the efficacy of intermittent fasting for weight management and metabolic disease risk reduction in adults with obesity. She has been studying fasting for almost 20 years and is one of the top researchers in this field. Her work is funded by the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, and the University of Illinois. She has published more than 120 publications on this topic and is also the author of two books for the general public, entitled the Every Other Day Diet and The Fastest Diet.
