"The treatment of women in the games industry and in the gaming community has been a significant problem historically," says Carly Kocurek, assistant professor of digital humanities and media studies at Illinois Tech. "While there are an increasing number of women both playing and making games, the industry still suffers from a lack of diversity by many measures, including gender."

Many women who play games or work in the gaming industry are subject to harassment, Kocurek says.

"This is a contemporary documentary, but one that points to a problem with a really long, entrenched history," she says. "I think these kinds of cultural issues should be of concern to all of us who use, develop, or study technology."
