Description

Recombination is a key process for genetics, as it both locks chromosomes together to ensure accurate segregation and also shuffles genetic variation around within populations. Cells have mechanisms that govern the rate and location of recombination events across the genome. Drosophila fruit flies are a model organism for genetics, and have been used to study recombination for nearly a century. How do we measure where these recombination events occur across the genome, and what are some pitfalls and challenges in making these measurements?
