Great Problems, Great Minds Seminar Series: Mapping Social Networks: Visualization, Metrics and Case Studies

Time

Join the Department of Social Sciences for this Great Problems, Great Minds seminar series event featuring guest speaker Clio Andris, an associate professor in the School of City and Regional Planning and the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology.

Social networks are critical structures for understanding the transfer of information, capital, goods, and diseases. This talk will describe new methods and research infrastructure for the analysis of spatial social networks (SSNs), i.e. social network structures where nodes and edges have a defined geographic location. Clio Andris will describe a broad research framework for embedding SSNs into geographic space and analytically modeling their non-linear dynamics using new methods, technologies, and research approaches. She will use case studies on the topics of criminology and organization science.
