You are invited to join us for presentations, demonstrations and poster sessions about the Real-Time Communications projects created by students in Illinois Tech's School of Applied Technology. Links to the RTC Lab website and a description of the event can found at Illinois Tech RTC Lab.

When and where:
The event takes place Wednesday, November 30, 2016. It will be held on the Illinois Tech Main Campus, in the Alumni Lounge in Hermann Hall. The address is 3241 S Federal St Chicago, IL 60616 and the building is easily accessible from State Street and 33rd Streets. Register:
Registration is free and open to the public. Your registration ensures that we will have enough coffee, tea and cookies!

Schedule of Events: 
There will be a poster session from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Students will be at their posters to discuss their work with you. Light refreshments - pizza, finger sandwiches and soft drinks - will be served. The student presentations will take place from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Your presence supports the students, who benefit from your questions and comments. We greatly appreciate your support and are sure that you will come away with new information, ideas and contacts. 

Summary schedule:

  • 6:00 - 6:30 PM – Light refreshments - pizza, finger sandwiches and soft drinks will be served as students explain key aspects of their work displayed on posters.
  • 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM - Student presentations and demonstrations.

Presentations:

  • Indoor Location for NG911 calls using iBeacons 
    • The student team will describe and demonstrate their system for providing the indoor location of a 9-1-1 caller – based on the location of BlueTooth beacons, a Location Server and Database and an Android application, all of their own design.
    • Since their last presentation in April the Student team has begun research exploring the impact on the accuracy of the location provided when the distribution pattern of the iBeacons is varied and when the algorithm used to locate the caller is changed. They will report on their current results and plans for continued research.
  • SIP for Mobile Networks: The students continued development of a 2G network that uses Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology and a SIP server to replace the BTS. This semester they are routing calls that originate on this network to the NG9-1-1 test bed in the RTC Lab.
  • WebRTC-based PSAP for Emergency Communications: The students will describe and demonstrate the current state of our WebRTC-based Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). This semester the team has added to the PSAP display features, including a map feature. It has also begun to build the SIP-to-WebRTC interface that will allow standards-based SIP emergency calls to flow through to a web-based PSAP.
