An Introduction to Kosher and Halal Food Laws
Join the Department of Food Science and Nutrition for this seminar series event featuring guest speaker Joe Mac Regenstein, a professor emeritus of food science and head of the Cornell University Kosher and Halal Food Initiative.
Kosher and halal food regulations are an important part of the food industry. For example, it is estimated that 40% of packaged goods are kosher certified. And for ingredient suppliers the importance of reliable kosher and halal certification is often critical for success. The halal market in the US is in a much earlier stage of development, but the global halal market encompasses around a quarter of the world’s population. This talk will focus on introducing these laws from a food science perspective.
