Overview
What does it take to make a major positive social change? When a small committed minority embraces common values and learns to communicate with integrity and empathy with a majority, their values gradually become part of the larger groups larger ‘truth’. This is an approach called ‘consensus-based leadership’. The establishment of the Empowerment, Leadership and Mentorship (ELM) program at Illinois Tech was formulated specifically to support the development and sustainability of this type of transformation leadership.
Objectives
- To help groups develop a common voice and to support each other through, peer-mentorship.
- To support the mentoring of leadership, through communication, empathy and consensus-building
- Learn to manage the manager and lead the leader.
- Learn how to formulate questions that drive individual and group dialogue towards agreement and even better, consensus over compromise.
- Learn the principles of impactful leadership qualities and are appreciated and supported by the following of that leadership.
