Overview
Whether it is true that real leaders are forged in crisis or not, there is no question that the pandemic has highlighted the crucial importance of leadership globally. The emergency and recovery stages of this crisis have put national, regional, organizational, and informal leaders to the test as they struggle to navigate these unprecedented waters. To support leaders around the world, two expertise-informed leadership frameworks were created, which describe the imperatives necessary to thrive in a crisis.
Objectives
- To engage with students using the frameworks as the basis for discussion
- To learn from students as they critically analyze the imperatives within both frameworks, including which resonate most strongly with their experience or observation, which do not resonate, and which imperatives are absent and should be added
- To encourage students to assess their own performance in the past seven months and to consider how this can enhance their self-awareness as a leader
- To discuss each other’s experiences and understand the extent to which leadership in a crisis differs according to one’s context
- To enable students to consider how key leadership imperatives during a crisis can enhance their leadership capacity and effectiveness in their own contexts, during and after the pandemic
