At Baxter, we work to create products that help to save and sustain the lives of our patients worldwide. In the pursuit of this goal, we need to leverage not only technical skills and engineering know-how, but also our creativity and forensic problem-solving skills. In our group, we routinely help to understand and solve problems with existing products, while also getting the opportunity to assist with the development of new ideas into products. Many of the areas that I will discuss will focus on the use of light scattering and microscopy to understand particulates and emulsions. Within that context, I will present an overview of several projects that touch on surgical, nutritional, and renal products, and I will endeavor to provide some insight into what the research is like when working in this heavily regulated industry.
