The SoReMo Forum at Illinois Tech Kicks Off

We're excited to launch the SoReMo (Socially Responsible Modeling, Computation, and Design) initiative - a STEM mission to empower students to enact positive societal change in partnership with community stakeholders and subject matter experts from industry, academia, and government.

Concerned about the rise of fake news, adversarial attacks, and ethical conduct on social media? Worried about negative impacts of inequity on infrastructure, healthcare, and education? Passionate about raising diversity, equity and inclusion awareness in your workplace? Do you want to be a part of the solution which holds companies and universities responsible for ensuring that our virtual world is safe for everyone?

Join our forum, a public bimonthly seminar to help us advance our mission by shaping conversations and providing guidance to our student Fellows. Learn from international expert speakers from academia and industry about cutting edge topics in the area of social responsibility, including ethical data science by Bradley Voytek (Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute, UCSD), cybersecurity, fairness and privacy in computing by Murat Kantarcioglu (Cybersecurity Lab, UT Dallas), social responsibility and ethics in AI by Teresa Scantamburlo (European Centre for Living Technology, Venice University, Italy), among others.

Our kick-off virtual meeting on February the 8th will serve to bring together Illinois Tech students and faculty with advisors, community members and concerned citizens at large.
