Argamon Elected Fellow of the British Computer Society

The British Computer Society (BCS) has elected Shlomo Engelson Argamon, professor of computer science and director of the Master of Data Science program, a Fellow for his contributions to computational stylistics and machine learning. BCS Fellowship is attained through nomination and recommendation by peers and approval by the BCS Fellowship Assessment Board for eminence and leadership in the profession.

Argamon is a research fellow at the Brain Sciences Foundation in Providence, RI, and a senior fellow at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies in Washington, DC. He received his B.Sc. (1988) in applied mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University, and his Ph.D. (1994) in computer science from Yale University, where he was a Hertz Foundation Fellow. He was also a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. Argamon has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on empirical machine learning, intelligent robotics, and computational linguistics, and is the editor of Computational Methods for Counterterrorism (2009, Springer) and The Structure of Style: Algorithmic Approaches to Manner and Meaning (2010, Springer) as well as cofounder of the Chicago Colloquium on Digital Humanities and Computer Science.
