Silicon Valley expert provides Internet for Tonga, gives IIT advice for surviving the tech age
With so many new technologies overhyped, overinvested and poorly executed, how does the average consumer make intelligent technology choices?
“Serial entrepreneur” Dewayne Hendricks, the forward-thinking CEO of The Dandin Group, will explain that and more as he discusses “What to Bookmark When Technology Changes at Warp-Speed” as part of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)’s ongoing Thought Leaders Seminar Series from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at The McCormick Tribune Campus Center, 3201 S. State St., Chicago.
With 30 years of experience in Silicon Valley, Dewayne Hendricks embraces the pragmatism and philosophy of lifelong learning involved in making good technology decisions. His wireless Internet service company, The Dandin Group, established broadband wireless networks for the island of Tonga and Native American reservations in the United States. He is a member of the Federal Communications Commission Technological Advisory Council and believes that everyone should have access to the latest wireless innovations.
Prior to The Dandin Group, Hendricks served as general manager of the wireless business unit for Com 21 Inc. He also worked as co-principal investigator on a National Science Foundation-sponsored Wireless Field Tests for Education project, which connected remote educational institutions in rural areas in the United States and Mongolia to the Internet. Hendricks is an amateur radio operator and a director of the Wireless Communications Alliance.
