Chicago, IL — October 15, 2002 —

Prospective students are invited next month to tour historic S.R.Crown Hall (Mies van der Rohe, 1956) and learn more about the graduate degree programs at the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology.

On Nov. 11, 2002, IIT opens its doors, hoping to open minds to its Master of Architecture (M. Arch.) and Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (Ph.D.) programs. IIT’s professional degrees are accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board.

Recent college graduates, professionals from other disciplines and practicing architects can learn about advanced degree programs in architecture in a series of panel presentations and informational discussions.

Registration for The Graduate Program Open House begins at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. Events begin at 1:30 p.m., featuring presentations about the curriculum, studio courses, and opportunities to study abroad. Student and faculty panels will describe the rewards and challenges of graduate-level architectural studies, supported by the rich architectural legacy of Chicago and the Midwest.

A tour of Mies van der Rohe’s masterwork S.R.Crown Hall, will allow prospective students to observe the studio space, teaching methods and practices of IIT faculty, many of whom are practicing architects in Chicago. Crown Hall was granted status as a National Historic Landmark in 2001.

The Graduate Program Open House concludes with a presentation by Neil Spiller of the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College, London, England. Spiller will present “The Limey Legacy of the Archigram-A Critical Exploration of the English Avant-Garde in the Wake of Archigram”. Part of the Fall Semester Evening Lecture Series, Spiller’s program begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by refreshments.
